Why Symphony Senior Home Care Is Walking to End Alzheimer’s

On September 19th, the Symphony Senior Home Care team will be at the starting line of the Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s in the Twin Cities.

We are not walking because it is a nice thing to do. We are walking because we know what this disease does to people. We see it every day.

Of the families we currently serve, more than half are navigating some form of dementia or cognitive decline. That is not a statistic we share lightly. It is the reality of the work we do and the families who trust us to show up for them.

We have sat with seniors who no longer recognize the home they have lived in for decades. We have supported families who are grieving someone who is still present. We have watched caregivers, spouses, adult children, and siblings carry an invisible weight that does not go away when the workday ends.

Dementia does not just affect the person living with it. It reshapes the entire family around them. And for many of the families we serve, the hardest part is not the care itself. It is the feeling that they are doing it alone.

That is not something we are willing to accept.

We walk because no one should go through this alone.

Every day, we see the difference that compassionate, consistent care can make for someone living with dementia. We also see the strength and resilience of family caregivers. Supporting the Walk to End Alzheimer’s is one more way we can stand beside the families we serve, both inside and outside the home. If you’d like to learn more about how we support families living with dementia, we invite you to read about our approach to dementia care at home and why caregiver consistency is so important.

We walk because the families we serve deserve more than compassionate care in the present. They deserve a future where this disease no longer defines what the final years of life look like for so many people.

Funds raised through the Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s help support research, education, advocacy, and programs for individuals and families affected by Alzheimer’s disease. That matters to us deeply, because we are not just a home care agency. We are part of these families’ lives during one of the most difficult chapters they will ever face.

If we can play even a small part in advancing research and supporting families, we want to be part of that. It is that simple. For families currently in the middle of this journey, we also offer respite care and in-home support that gives caregivers relief while keeping their loved one safe and comfortable at home.
